About - Approach

The TTHSI is to be the guiding blueprint for advancing medicine and health sciences in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean.  It provides a framework that improves access to training opportunities locally in disciplines that span the full range of positions required to sustain a modern health sector – from allied personnel to nurses, practitioners, middle management and executive leadership.  It is also intended that advanced clinical services would be introduced in areas which affect a significant proportion of our population.

To facilitate these activities, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education and the University of Trinidad and Tobago have engaged the services of Johns Hopkins Medicine Internationalan international health care provider with a pre-eminent reputation for clinical care, education and medical research.  This collaboration, and others that will develop during the course of implementing the TTHSI, will ensure that the country has access to the expertise available within renowned health-related institutions in the world to inform proposals for upgrading the gaps and deficiencies identified in the health sector.

These expertise range from medicine to public health, public policy and management, and will be utilised in advising, training and managing the range of activities required under the three-pronged approach around which the TTHSI is designed.
