The availability of ongoing professional development opportunities is key to addressing human resource capacity and for ensuring that skills sets are continuously upgraded to match changing requirements. As part of the Health Sciences Initiative, the UTT has delivered several short courses geared towards improving management competencies in the health sector. A comprehensive programme of function-specific courses is being identified based on the several reports on priority human resource capacity needs generated by external agencies and the Ministry of Health.
In addition, several lectures have been delivered by visiting faculty and administrators of Johns Hopkins, as they conduct assessments required to move the various project components forward. These discussions focus on best practice and trends in health care services delivery, and allow local professionals an opportunity to exchange ideas directly with physicians, researchers and administrators from an institution that has an established reputation in a wide range of health-related disciplines.
