Nursing personnel are an integral component of any health sector and have an important role in determining the standard of care. In Trinidad and Tobago, several institutions are involved with the training of nurse recruits, but, at the mid-career and senior levels, such development opportunities become more limited.
Under the TTHSI, the UTT will work with representatives of the nursing fraternity and training providers to coordinate a series of programmes and workshops that expose participants to systems, policies and approaches that compliment the changing delivery of health services, and the changing roles and expectations of nurses within this context. These pogrammes will integrate the academic and administrative resources available at Hopkins with the specific requirements of the health sector in Trinidad and Tobago. In so doing, it is expected that informed change can be initiated in the approach to and mechanism for achieving nursing excellence throughout the various health care facilities around the country.
